About
Alaa "Regash" Aliabdallah is a Palestinian filmmaker, photographer and cinematographer based in Nablus, Palestine. Working at the intersection of documentary, performance art and street photography, he has spent over a decade building a visual archive of Palestinian cultural life that is both intimate and politically charged.
His journey began in 2014 with a camera and a deep curiosity for the performing arts. Embedded with the Palestinian Circus School, he developed his craft photographing and documenting performers who used their bodies as instruments of resistance and beauty. This work took him across the West Bank — from Nablus to Jenin to Ramallah, and opened doors to theatre companies, dance troupes and musicians who were redefining Palestinian artistic identity.
In 2025, Regash made his debut as a feature film director with Palestine Comedy Club, co-directed with Charlotte Knowles. The film, shot entirely by Regash, follows six Palestinian stand-up comedians as they tour Palestine and travel to London for a series of gigs that fall, tragically, on October 7th, 2023. The film premiered at SXSW London, screened at IDFA, Sheffield DocFest, DOC NYC and Raindance, where it won the Spirit of Raindance Award. It received four British Independent Film Award (BIFA) nominations and earned an 8.2 on IMDb.
Regash's photography has been exhibited internationally, including at the French Institute, TEDx Arab American University and at industry events in Cannes and SXSW. His work has been published in outlets covering Palestinian arts and culture across Europe and the Middle East.
